ACI Launches ACI Abuja Zone *Commences year’s Beyond Waste project in Mosquito Village

Lagos, Nigeria – February 24, 2018- In line with fulfilling her mission of raising environmentally responsible citizens, Africa Clean Up Initiative (ACI), a non-governmental environmental organization has inaugurated the ACI Abuja Zone. The zone will shepherd state chapters of ACI Green Team across states in the northern part of Nigeria.

The Abuja Zone led by Ochiec … stamped its presence with a clean up exercise carried out at the IDP Camp, Area 1, Abuja. The launch served as a wake-up call for individuals to take personal responsibility in caring for the environment. Mr. Alex Akigbe, the Chief Environmental Officer (CEO) noted: “ACI believes individuals can do more as a team for the good of the environment. In this regard, the ACI Abuja Zone will be leading individuals across the northern states to preach environmental sustainability and raising environmentally responsible citizens.”

The team led by the CEO rounded off the inauguration exercise with an interview by Voice of Nigeria (VON) and Dutche Velli at the VON office, Abuja.

Same day in Lagos, ACI was at Makoko to support the Green Rally and Clean Up Exercise by RecyclePoints powered by Unilever. The event saw to the sanitation of the environment of Unilever adopted school, Ken Ade Private School with its Perfect City Project.

As part of promoting grassroots commitment to clean environment, JAFTJAY collaborated with ACI to fuss dance with clean up exercise in Okun-owa in Ajegunle. The exercise attracted young people who were entertained by the dance group after the sanitation exercise in the community.

And ACI commenced the 2018 Beyond Waste Project with a humanitarian visit to Mosquito Village in Adidas Community. About one hundred and fifty (150) women and children benefited from the exercise. They were given mosquito nets, food items and cloth items. More so, the pregnant women and mothers were addressed by our certified mid-wife and environmentalist, Mrs. Eunice Akigbe on the good of early breast feeding and the need for maintaining a clean environment.

Our gratitude to our partners – Global Health and ACI Volunteers.

In the months of March and April, ACI Green Team, Surulere, Lagos Chapter will stage ‘Keep Surulere Clean’ in Surulere to kick start ACI 2018 community clean up and environmental advocacy exercise.  And we also be addressing the pregnant women in Makoko with our Beyond Waste Project.
